Many
students are employed part time in various capacities within
the University. Jobs typically range from 10 to 15 hours
per week with the salary based upon the skill required
for the position. Students receive regular bi-weekly payroll
checks for the hours they have worked. These funds are
not applied to a student's account or listed as pending
aid on the University's billing statement.
Federal Work Study is listed on my award letter.
How do I find a job?
The MU Student Financial Aid Office
is responsible for the initial awarding of Federal
Work Study to eligible
students. This opportunity is awarded to students with
financial need who filed their FAFSA by the March 1
priority deadline and indicated an interest in part-time
work.
The MU Career Center administers the actual placement
of Federal Work Study students in jobs. You may obtain
information on available jobs on campus and community
service positions through the Career Center's web site
at http://career.missouri.edu/workstudy/.
Only students with an accepted Federal Work Study award
and who have a verified
status in myZou may view
and select from available positions which will be posted by the middle of June.
I did not receive a Federal Work Study award. How do
I find a job?
Students not receiving a Federal
Work Study award should first contact the Student Financial
Aid Office to see if funds are available. If not, students
may still work in a campus position. Many of the academic
schools and departments employ students and pay their
earnings from general University accounts. These positions
do not require a FAFSA or financial need. Separate student
employment applications should be submitted to the school/department.
Job listings for students not receiving Federal Work
Study are found at www.career.missouri.edu
Additional job opportunities are available with Campus
Dining Services. You are not required to have Federal
Work Study eligibility to apply. For more information,
go to: http://mufood.missouri.edu/employment.php
Can I apply my payroll check to my Cashier's bill?
Bi-weekly
earnings are distributed directly to the student either
by payroll check or by direct deposit into a designated
checking or savings account. Your Federal Work Study
award cannot be applied directly to your University bill
or show as pending aid on your account. However, you
can use these funds when making a payment to the University.
Is Federal Work Study available during the summer?
County
Extension offices request students to
fill community service assistant positions
to help plan, carryout and evaluate local summer recreation
and educational programs for youth. University Extension
and the MU Student Financial Aid Office team together
by
placing
college
students in these full time summer jobs at local extension
offices. Students interested in these positions would
need to have filed the FAFSA for the next academic year.
Applications for the positions are typically available
at the local county extension
office by March prior to the summer when employment is
sought.
