Financial
aid is available for students enrolling in correspondence
courses or telecommunication courses, however the process
is somewhat different. To receive aid, you must also
be admitted to a degree seeking program at MU and meet
other
eligibility requirements.
Below you will find information on how enrolling
in these types of courses can effect your
financial aid eligibility. You may also contact
your advisor if you have additional
questions.
Enrollment in Correspondence Courses
Fees and Terms
Fees
for correspondence courses are due up front to the Center
for Distance and
Independent Study. Therefore,
your financial aid may not be ready to disburse at the
time you register for the course.
Courses taught by an MU professor
are preloaded into the Registrar’s system. If you register for the
course prior to the Registrar’s census date, it
is loaded for that current term. If you register for
the course after the Registrar’s census date, it
is loaded for the following term.
Courses taught by UM faculty
other than MU (ex. UMSL or UMR) are not loaded into
the Registrar’s system
until the course is completed, regardless of when you
register for the course. Therefore, you cannot receive
financial aid for this course until it is complete and
posted to your transcript and as long as the last date
of attendance for the applicable term has not passed.
Enrollment Status and Aid Eligibility
Students who enroll
in correspondence courses only will
be considered only as halftime per federal regulation.
You will only be eligible for Pell Grant (at the halftime
rate) and loans. Your Pell Grant will not disburse until
halfway through the semester. You must also have completed
50% of the coursework to receive your Pell Grant.
If you enroll in a combination of correspondence and
regular coursework, then these courses can be counted
in your cost of attendance for the term in which they
are loaded. You will be considered to receive all types
of federal, state, and institutional aid provided you
have met all eligibility requirements and deadlines.
A complete listing of all aid types offered through MU
is provided throughout this web site.
Enrollment in Telecommunication Courses
Fees and Terms
Fees can be billed through the Cashiers
Office, or payment arrangements can be handled through
MU Direct. Non-resident
fees are not charged for telecommunication courses.
Enrollment Status and Aid Eligibility
Enrollment in telecommunication
courses can be counted in your cost of attendance for
the term in which you
are enrolled. You will not be eligible for aid intended
to reduce non-resident fees. There are no other restrictions
on aid provided you have met all other eligibility requirements
and deadlines. A complete listing of all aid types offered
through MU is provided throughout this web site.
