MU
Programs
Through the International Center, the Study Abroad Team
promotes and supports the majority of international educational
opportunities for the University. The Study Aboard
office provides information on various programs that may be
researched by country and length of program. The center
continuously strives to maintain low-cost programs that
make studying abroad easy and affordable.
Other academic MU schools/colleges have established
study abroad programs. The
College of Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR),
Journalism
School and the College
of Business currently have established programs
ranging in length from 3 weeks to a full year.
For MU programs, students will be billed through
the Cashiers office for the academic credit based on
a predetermined number of academic hours. In some cases,
charges may be billed for additional related
costs such as housing, airfare, room and board, etc.
The student is responsible for knowing the specific billing
information for their program, as this will vary greatly
between programs.
The SFA office will disburse all applicable federal, state, institution and private financial aid. The Cashiers Office will extend a refund when financial aid exceeds the balance on your account.
Partner Programs
These programs are managed by other universities or
study abroad organizations with which MU has cooperative
agreements. Currently, International Center has established
partnerships with eleven institutions. Costs are generally
higher than MU sponsored programs as these institutions
provide a number of on-site support services.
Under a signed agreement between
MU and the other school/institution, students will
be billed for 13 hours of academic credit. The Partner Payment Worksheet explains this arrangement.
Many partner programs extend
scholarships or discounts through their institution
to MU students. Any scholarship
or discount extended by a partner program should be reflected
on the school/institution’s billing statement.
Non-MU Programs
For these programs, the student is responsible for their
enrollment, payment for the costs of the program to the
school or organization, and return of their transcripts.
The MU International Admissions office must agree to
accept the transcript. This agreement is part of the
Course Proposal completed for the study abroad office
prior to registration.
As MU has no affiliation with these programs, only federal
Pell grant and loan eligibility will be applicable. MU
will send to the school or institution a consortium/verification
of enrollment. Upon return of the agreement, any federal
Pell grant and/or loan will be processed through the
MU Cashiers office and paid directly to the student. Students
need to have direct
deposit (pdf) established with the Cashiers
office.
Students participating in non-MU programs are also eligible
for the federal PLUS and private alternative loans.
